One of the characteristics of being a trumpet player in the Denver Brass is the necessity to play high. In Cami Kidwell-Dodge’s case, that could mean a soaring note on her piccolo trumpet or a hike to the top of Long’s Peak. A home grown Texas gal, Cami honed in on a music career at Baylor University but found her home in Colorado after attending Colorado State University for her master’s degree in music therapy.
One of the longest serving members of the Brass since 1995, Cami’s beautiful trumpet sound contributes to one of the finest trumpet sections in the nation. A serious and meticulous musician, she lights up Denver Brass rehearsals with her wit and sense of humor. Cami is a highly sought after freelance trumpeter, performing in brass quintets, symphony orchestras and even a mariachi band! She received the inspiration to achieve her musical goals from her high school band director and college trumpet professors. Along with her high level of performance, she has followed in their footsteps with her own inspirational trumpet teaching.
When not making music, Cami and her family – husband Jeff and teenagers Austin and Sarah – lead an active Colorado lifestyle. Hiking those fourteeners surely is good for musicians’ lungs!
